The dynamics of withholding and giving have both been very important in my practice.
Sometimes to understand something, I have to move eliptically toward it, and in that slow circling, understanding and misunderstanding emerge. This project became about my own fundamental incoherence and emotional confusion, as much as it was about the role of affective response inside power dynamics. By taking a para-relationship mainly built through ingesting media as a serious relationship with impacts, I hoped to transform something about the way both Silvio Berlusconi and I participated.
I still don’t know what the net outcome was, or if this was a conceptually or ethically sound endeavor, only that I felt very compelled to do it and to continue in it, until shortly after his death, when the project finally began to run cold for me.
